Visiting a passenger during delays?

Ms. Phoebe asked:

I have a friend who is taking a vocation in Hilo, Hawaii. I live in Oahu though, so I didn’t get a chance to see him even though we’re both in Hawaii. He told me that on the way back home to California, he has a 4-hour overtime in Honolulu. (where I live) So is it possible for me to visit him while he is on a overtime here? Would he be able to get pass the gate and all that? I heard if he asks, they might let him through the gate but I’m not sure.

Thanks~

He can go out the gate, its getting back in that may be hard – he should have a ticket or something showing he is on a certain flight, so he should be able to ask the airline!
