Consider These Suggestions For Summer Travel
As we watch our vacation budgets carefully, a question that arises is “Where’s a great destination with lots of variety?” A good candidate for your summer travel plans would be Southern California. SoCal offers beaches, amusement parks, Hollywood and many other attractions.
Another possibility would be Hawaii. It’s hard to beat the beautiful warm ocean water, but it does not offer as much overall variety as Southern California. The beaches in SoCal do not have as many rock outcroppings and the sun is less intense (as is the humidity). As we noted, the Hawaiian waters are warmer, but in the middle of summer, the cooler California water can be more invigorating.
Hawaii does have an advantage with such beautiful natural countryside and vegetation, enhanced by the local Polynesian culture. But don’t forget the melting pot of many different cultures to be experienced in California, as well as the mountains, desert and coastline.
The beaches are just one of many attractions to be enjoyed in Southern California. There are a half-dozen major theme parks to be visited. For lovers of roller coasters, Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain are definitely places to visit if possible. Both offer many coasters and other fun rides. In fact, they offer more thrill rides than Disneyland, although the Magic Kingdom does include some fast attractions such as the Matterhorn and Space Mountain.
There aren’t many roller coasters to be found in Hawaii, unless you consider wintertime surfing to qualify in that category. California is probably a more budget-friendly summer travel option, but now and then you really do need to get over to Hawaii.
