As the case may be with what you perceive to be the beginning of science, looking at stars might be the oldest science that can be thought of – since the beginning of mankind people have been gazing in the starry sky and trying to make sense of it. In newer times big accomplishments have changed entire views of the world and at present we know very much about space in general. the overwhelming fast achievements in techonology in the last century and the computing power in the hand of the average joe have brought the science into our homes.
Today we know much about the universe and space and it’s objects (for example Black holes).
Imagine – it has become a lot easier to get to know the science of astronomy for everyone. You don’t have to be a top expert scientest to see into the universe. There are a lot of very good software projects and relatively cheap beginners telescopes that enable everyone to deepen the knowledge about our universe (e.g. Pictures of stars, space and the universe with Google Sky.
